Anthony D. James is a technology entrepreneur, researcher, husband, and father who has long believed that open-source technology can create opportunity for anyone willing to pursue it.

Born in Independence, Missouri, Anthony developed an early fascination with technology and its ability to change the direction of a person’s life. On March 12, 2012, he founded Linux Academy with a simple belief: people should be able to build better futures by gaining practical, accessible technology skills.

Linux Academy began as an effort to help people learn Linux and cloud computing through hands-on education. What started as a focused learning platform grew into a global technology-training company serving more than 500,000 learners. Its customers included individuals seeking their first opportunities in technology as well as teams at organizations such as Amazon, Google, Deloitte, Fidelity, and Capital One.

In June 2015, Anthony and his wife, Tessa, made a defining family decision. They moved Linux Academy—and their young family, including their sons, Layden and Kyser—from Missouri to Keller, Texas, with the intention of building the company’s next chapter.

The years that followed required sacrifice, persistence, and a shared belief in what Linux Academy could become. By 2019, the company had grown to approximately 200 employees and had become one of the most recognized learning platforms in cloud and Linux education. In December 2019, Linux Academy was acquired by A Cloud Guru.

After the acquisition, Anthony made an intentional decision to step away from public attention. Rather than immediately beginning another high-profile company, he placed his focus on Tessa, Layden, Kyser, and the years of family life that could not be recovered later.

That quieter chapter eventually created room for a different kind of work.

Today, Anthony continues to research and build systems at the intersection of technology, data, artificial intelligence, education, and human decision-making. His current work includes Pressure Atlas, a system designed to measure changing pressure across complex information environments, and Solmere, a family-created learning world built around scholarship, imagination, personal growth, and shared experience.

Solmere began with a question Anthony and Tessa encountered while creating a more intentional educational path for Layden and Kyser:

What should surround the curriculum?

Their answer became a living world of Houses, quests, recognition, creativity, technology, music, aviation, service, and family values. It reflects a belief shared across Anthony’s work: access to information matters, but the environment surrounding a person can determine whether that information becomes meaningful.

Across each chapter—from Linux Academy to his present research—Anthony’s work has remained grounded in the same underlying principles: create opportunity, remain curious, tell the truth, protect authorship, share what may help others, and build a life in which family remains at the center.

Anthony lives in Texas with his wife, Tessa, and their sons, Layden and Kyser.
